THE ALL-STARS ARE LOOKING FOR A DEDICATED HARD-WORKING HIGH SCHOOL TENOR SAX PLAYER
WHO CAN AUDITION? High School Denver Metropolitan Area Musicians who Play Tenor Sax.
WHEN WILL AUDITIONS TAKE PLACE? Sundays, from 6:15 until 8:45 pm, at Flesher-Hinton Music Store (3936 Tennyson St. in Denver)
WHAT EXPERIENCE IS NEEDED? Intermediate jazz experience is preferred.
MONTHLY CLINICIANS: UC-Denver Music Professor Bill Clark, tuba player with the Queen City Jazz Band, will be a regular clinician. Additional professional jazz musicians will bedoing clinics from time to time as well.
REHEARSALS: Weekly rehearsals will take place at Flesher-Hinton Music Store, from 6:15 until 8:45 pm, each Sunday. Some holiday weekends and a few other Sundays are skipped from time to time.
PERFORMANCE GIGS? The All-Stars perform in between the sets of the professional bands during each monthly Denver Jazz Club session. They also perform at professional jazz festivals and performance gigs throughout the area. The Youth All-Stars performed at the 2010 Sacramento Jazz Jubilee and plan to return in 2011!
SCHOOL CONFLICTS? The Denver Jazz Club Youth All Stars only agree to do performances that do not conflict with school activities.
COST: Each selected student will be required to become a member of the Denver Jazz Club ($10 yearly fee). The monthly dues (4 weekly sessions) run $100, and are payable at the start of each month.
WILL PAID GIGS REDUCE MONTHLY DUES? Any money the band is paid will reduce the next month’s dues or go towards trip expenses.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE? The Denver Jazz Club does have financial assistance available for students in need.

CONCERTO COMPETITION

2010/2011 Young Artists Master Class & Concerto
Competition for Winds, Brass and Percussion
The Denver Philharmonic Orchestra is now accepting applications for its
Young Artist Competition/Masterclass for brass, winds, and percussion
(ages 12–22). This is not your typical musical competition—its primary
goal is to provide all participants with a meaningful educational
experience by holding audition performances in a masterclass setting.
One or two masterclass participants will be selected to perform a
movement of their concerto with the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra during
the January 28, 2011 concert.

Mile High Community Band (MHCB) begins its summer session May 29th,
located at the scenic outdoor pavilion at Red Rocks Community College.
Get back to music this summer--or bridge your school's music program--with
MHCB's Jazz and Concert Bands. Our Jazz and Concert Band programs
offer excellent opportunities for continuing music instruction, under the
direction of Thomas A. Blomster, with guest conductors and special
sessions planned.
We rehearse Thursday evenings!

The
Thornton Arts, Sciences and Humanities Council (TASHCO) and the
Thornton Community Band Board of Directors are pleased to report some
amazing early successes in the band's formation. The band can boast a
roster of over 70 talented musicians so we hope you have marked your
calendar for the inaugural concert. We've made giant strides under the
baton of Dr. David Kish and are preparing a program of highly
entertaining music.
